Applied Spectral Imaging Introduces Analytical Imaging Platform With Potential in Genomics Applications

Migdal Ha'Emek, Israel, April 23, 2001 - Applied Spectral Imaging has recently introduced SpectraView™, an analytical spectral imaging workstation that can distinguish between materials that appear identical.

"We are very excited about the potential of SpectraView™," said H. Laurence Shaw MD, ASI's CEO. "SpectraView™ can provide a new dimension in material identification in a multitude of applications," says Dr. Shaw. "Significant applications in plant genomics, microarray readers, drug discovery and safety testing, forensics, semiconductor process and quality control, color quantification and verification, and other industrial inspection areas are being pursued."

"Bringing SpectraView™ to market has broadened our product base and has shown that applications for ASI's spectral imaging technology extend beyond chromosome mapping applications, and that our proprietary technology positions can be strategically important to companies competing in other fields as well, " added Craig Sundheimer, ASI's Chief Business Development Officer. "We are pursuing an aggressive program of corporate partnering to exploit these areas outside of our core cytogenetics business. High on our list are companies participating in the burgeoning genomics arena, both human and plant, where SpectraView can significantly enhance the ability to detect and count multiplexed DNA markers in microarrays, thereby greatly increasing the information generated in each experiment, and significantly reducing the cost of genomics research".

Applied Spectral Imaging, Ltd. (ASI) is a privately held imaging company based in Israel, with a wholly owned subsidiary in Carlsbad, California. It employs 45 people. ASI has developed and commercialized products in cytogenetics. In addition, it has brought to market SpectraView™, a general analytical imaging system which may be used in a wide range of applications and industries.
